The development of the intake system for the SnowEater robot is presented in this paper. The SnowEater robot is a small, lightweight and low powered autonomous machine, designed to remove and compact snow from small areas (less than 30 m 2).Its design includes four interacting systems to accomplish the task. These systems are the intake, crawler, compressing and navigation system. The interest in snow plow robots has exploded over the last 5 years, largely thanks to the hobbyists in robotics area. In this inspirational post, I present the most important parts of a snow plow robot to make your work easier and lets you focus on what is more important: building the snow plow robot.

The lessons learned from this project’s field testing are expected to influence future snowplow design and encourage others in the winter maintenance community to consider.

Again, the mass of snow encountered per unit time is proportional to the speed of the plow so the power required goes like the cube of the speed (as it should). One can plug in some numbers for typical snow density, plow angle, bike speed, etc. Ballpark calculations show the power required to pull the 45 º plow 6 MPH in 6" of wet snow is about. If snow is especially high, drivers may need to be cautious about how much of the plow blade they bring into contact with the snow pile to avoid overloading the plow.

recommends drivers “use a full blade width for two inches of snow or less, three quarters of the blade for four inches of snow and half blade for six inches or more.”. Whether it's a "straight" blade or V design, always have it tilted to the right lest you catch a hidden post, solid mailbox, or edge of a snow bank.

Most plow operators I spoke to rarely exceed   Most plow trucks are conventional-cab types, but some municipalities use low cabovers whose primary duties are far removed from plowing.

New York City, Chicago, and Milwaukee equip their trash-collection trucks with plow mounts and controls, and when a serious storm hits, they return to their garages, hook up plow blades, and hit the streets to push snow aside.

Spikes and sweeps do less soil mixing and cover less residue than do twisted shovels. Some chisel plows are equipped with a gang of coulters or disk blades mounted in front to cut residue.
